Research Project: The Four-Day Workweek in Hospitals

In August 2025, the “Four-Day Workweek” project at the hospital, funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, was launched! The project aims to reduce the workload on nursing staff and thereby address the nursing shortage in the long term. The central objective is to develop a toolkit that hospitals can use to introduce attractive work schedule models. One focus, among others, is on testing flexible work schedules that reduce working hours while maintaining full pay. The goal is not to intensify the workload, but to provide genuine relief through modern technology, optimized processes, improved interface management, and better collaboration.
The project team consists of the Chair of Business Informatics and New Media (University of Siegen), the Chair of IT for an Aging Society (University of Siegen), the Chair of Service Development in SMEs and the Skilled Trades (University of Siegen), the Chair of Sociology of Science and Technology (TU Dortmund University), and the Chair of Sociology of Work and Organization. Prof. Dr. Maximiliane Wilkesmann and Katharina Hast are both looking forward to working together!
