Going on workation – Is tourism research ready to take off? Exploring an emerging phenomenon of hybrid tourism
The article "Going on workation - Is tourism research ready to take off? Exploring an emerging phenomenon of hybrid tourism" by Mona Bassyiouny and Maximiliane Wilkesmann has been published in Tourism Management Perspectives.
The paper explores current developments towards workation as a new form of hybrid tourism driven by the Covid 19 pandemic. Using a qualitative study, both the supply side (hotel managers) and the demand side (workationers) were examined. It is shown that workationers do not fit into the category of either work tourists or traveling workers. Instead, the artificially created distinction between business and leisure tourism seems to be outdated, especially in a digitized world.
